Yobe: Troops engage ISWAP militants in fierce gun battle – Army

Published on May 03, 2025 at 02:01 PM

The Nigerian Army has confirmed that its troops are currently engaged in a fierce gunfight with fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Buni Gari, Yobe State.

The army disclosed this on Saturday morning through its verified Facebook page, stating:“Troops of Operation HADIN KAI currently in a fierce battle against ISWAP attack at Buni Gari, Yobe State. Details later.”;

This confrontation comes amid a recent surge in terrorist activities in the North-East region.

It also follows a deadly attack by ISWAP insurgents in nearby Buni Yadi, also in Gujba Local Government Area, less than two weeks ago.

That assault left three soldiers dead and saw the insurgents looting food supplies and livestock from the community.
