Waje massacre: Kebbi deputy gov visits affected community

Published on May 18, 2025 at 07:32 PM

The Kebbi State Government has extended its condolences to residents of Waje District in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, following a deadly assault that left 15 farmers dead and three others wounded.

Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, led a delegation to the area on Saturday to commiserate with the affected community and present a financial donation of N24 million on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris.

The funds are meant to assist the families of the deceased and those receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the attack.

During the visit to the palace of the District Head of Waje, Senator Tafida said the support represents a compassionate gesture from the government to help grieving families and affected individuals cope with the tragedy.

He assured the community that proactive steps would be taken by the government to improve the security situation and protect farming communities across the state.

In his remarks, the District Head, Hon. Bala Danbaba, expressed gratitude to the state leadership for the solidarity visit and financial aid.

He also appealed for stronger security presence in the area, noting that Danko-Wasagu’s shared boundaries with Niger, Zamfara, and Sokoto States expose it to cross-border threats.

Chairman of Danko-Wasagu Local Government, Alhaji Hussaini Aliyu Bena, confirmed the casualty figure from the incident and called for sustained government intervention to restore confidence among rural dwellers.

Among those who accompanied the deputy governor were Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah, Hon. Kabir Tukura, Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, APC State Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana Zuru, as well as several commissioners and special advisers.
