US inflation eases as Nigeria gets set to release April Consumer Price Index

Published on May 14, 2025 at 09:14 AM

United States inflation cooled off in April to 2.3 percent, the lowest rate since February 2021, as Nigeria is set to release the country’s April inflation figure.

The Bureau of Labour Statistics’ latest Consumer Price Index data, released on Tuesday, indicated that US inflation declined.

The data showed that consumer prices rose to 0.2 percent, leading to an annual inflation drop to 2.3 percent in April from 2.4 percent in March 2024.

The latest US inflation figures are data President Donald Trump’s administration would brag about on the easing of tariffs.

This comes as the price of eggs lowered in the period under review in the US. BLS data indicated that the average price of a dozen Grade A eggs fell from $6.23 to $5.12, BLS data shows.

The US inflation decline comes as Nigerians expect the release of the April inflation data on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

In March, Nig recorded the previous month.

Meanwhile, the World Bank projects Nigeria’s inflation at 22.1 in 2025. The bank disclosed this in its Nigeria Development Update report released on Monday.
