Electricity is likely to be cheaper on the beach

Located on Shapinsay Island in Orkney, Veantrow Bay – a freehold stretch of sand – will hit the market this week in what has been dubbed a “fantastic investment opportunity”.

For just £7000 buyers can get their hands on this plot of land, which has “gorgeous views” of the north sea and neighbouring islands.

Advertised on the real estate company ‘s website, the area could be used as a or caravan site too.

With Orkney tent pitching fees hovering around £15-£30 a night it could make for a fun venture for a willing entrepreneur.

Shapinsay even has its own regular from Kirkwall, the largest town in Orkney.

Electricity bills are likely to be cheaper than in most locations as it has a local wind turbine that the owners of the plots may be able to connect to.

The selling agents said: “This is a fantastic peaceful and happy place to live or for a holiday getaway home.”;

Orkney was named Scotland's best place to live for the eighth year in a row by a Bank of Scotland survey 2020.

High employment levels coupled with a low crime rate and strong exam results from schools.

Smaller primary class sizes and good health and happiness scores also put the islands top.

Orkney inhabitants recently said they were “seriously considering”; rejoining Norway.

The archipelago was inhabited by Vikings during the 800s and was once part of Norway.

The listing states: “With gorgeous views of thenorth seaand neighbouring, this would be the ideal plot for a self-build holiday cottage, providing you and your family the perfect getaway from your busy lives (subject to planning consents).

“The plot of land is roughly 200sqm and could also be used as a camping/caravan site – current Orkney tent pitching fees are roughly £15-£30 per night.

“The land is nearby the Lairo water, which is a wetland renowned for a wide variety of bird species, and would be theideal spotfor bird watchers and ornithology enthusiasts.”

The beach is going under the hammer via an online auction on Wednesday, April 23.

Just last month another Scottish island hit the market for £350,000 – which is cheaper than the price of a three-bedroom flat in Glasgow.

Vacsay Island is a remote, uninhabited island that is located in Loch Roag, just off the westcoastof Lewis in the Outer Hebrides.

It is situated between the islands of Vuia Mòr and Pabay Mòr and there are some ruined buildings that can be seen on the south side.

The huge island, which is now used for grazing sheep, spans 101 acres and is 34 meters at its highest point.

With breathtaking views and scenery, it has plenty to offer and has now been put up for sale by Western Isles Properties.

It was previously owned by a wealthy businessman who lived in theLanarkshirearea.

However, it was passed on to relatives after he died a couple of year, according toThe Scotsman.

It was put up for sale for offers over £350,000 and was described as being a fantastic opportunity for someone “looking to escape city life”.
