Troops of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army under Operation SAFE HAVEN have neutralised two suspected armed bandits and recovered a cache of weapons and valuables during a raid on a criminal hideout in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation, which was carried out on Monday, targeted a suspected bandits’ enclave located around Teng Mountain/Forest, following credible intelligence. Security sources confirmed to Zagazola Makama that troops engaged the criminals in a gunfight and overpowered them with superior firepower, leading to the death of two suspects.
Among the items recovered at the scene were one AK-47 rifle, a locally fabricated rifle capable of firing 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, one AK-47 magazine, and seven rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition. Troops also seized four mobile phones, two motorcycles, and N157,900 in cash believed to be proceeds from criminal activities.
The Nigerian Army said the recovered weapons are now in military custody, while the seized mobile phones are undergoing forensic analysis to aid in locating and apprehending other fleeing members of the gang.
Operation SAFE HAVEN reassured the public that the military remains committed to sustaining offensive operations against banditry and other criminal activities until peace is fully restored across the Joint Operations Area.
