Published on May 01, 2025 at 04:36 PM

The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Udeme Otong, has said the South should be allowed to stay in power for eight years like the North.

Otong made the call in an interview with journalists in Abuja on Thursday.

He insisted that Nigerians and the Governor of Akwa Ibom State are backing President Bola Tinubu because he is doing well.

Arguing that Tinubu has ensured that state governors have enough funds to manage their states, Otong said the president deserves another four years.

Recently, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno said .

Eno, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said Nigerians are backing the president to remain in power till 2031.

On Wednesday, , noting that the opposition party no longer has the capacity to take him to the next destination.

Otong said, “All of us have said Tinubu is doing very well, and we are going to support Tinubu for his second term, and you know, this second term is just for the South.

“The Northerners have got their eight years, so the South must also have theirs. But Tinubu is doing very well.

“As the Speaker of Akwa Ibom state, there’s no time the governor has brought any loan facility request for us to approve for him.

“So that means the President is doing very well for making sure that the governors in each of the states have a lot of money to manage the state, and that’s why you see peace everywhere.”;
