GOING to the races is a fun-day out for many – but two glam women massively missed the memo when it came to their outfits at a recent event.
Fashion lover Amy revealed how she had dressed to the nines for the racecourse, only to find that no one else was wearing
The chic racegoer posed with a stylish pal as they both stunned in pastel dresses and stilettos at Ayr Racecourse in .
They had even gone to the trouble of buying to finish off their outfits.
However, they were left mortified when they turned up and saw nearly empty stands and casually-dressed older men wearing jeans and hoodies.
On her @amyllaidlaw account, she wrote: “When you come to the races thinking it’s Ladies Day but nobody is dressed up and there’s nobody under the age of 50 to be seen.
“Why did we think all races were Ladies Day this is SO embarrassing.
“Is this an original experience girls please tell me if this has happened to anyone else before?”;
Amy explained how the event was a Spring race day and there had been “photos of ladies with fascinators”; on the advert, so she had decided to dress up.
Many people were entertained by their plight, with the video racking up over 80,000 likes.
One person said: “I go to Ayr races often, usually it’s a casual affair in jeans.”;
A second added: “No i would’ve actually left and gone home i can’t.”;
A third wrote: “I only went to a family race day in April it was freezing and there were two girls dressed for ladies day I felt so bad for them.”;
However, some reassuring people said the same situation had occurred for them.
One person commented: “Girl this has happened to me before & we also put our fascinators in our bags out of sheer embarrassment.”;
According to the Ayr Racecourse website: “The fashion stakes are never higher than at Ayr’s most glamorous racedays.”;
These include their Coral Scottish Grand National Ladies Day and Ayr Gold Cup Ladies Day.
They added: “The girls glam up in their colourful dresses, hats and fascinators and that prompts the guys to wear their smartest outfits too.
“The standard is high and the bar is raised every year! So come dressed to impress and you may even be in with a chance to win some fantastic prizes with our Style Awards Competitions for Ladies and Gents.
“Dressing for a day at the races depends greatly on if it is one of our many glamorous days out or a visit to a midweek fixture.
“But overall the simple code is smart but casual with no ripped or torn denims in hospitality or club areas and no football colours.”;
