NICK KYRGIOS is plotting a return to the French Open and then Wimbledon – provided he is fit to play.
The Australian, 30, has entered the men’s doubles competition at Roland Garros – his first appearance on red Paris clay since 2017.
He will hook-up with fellow countryman Jordan Thompson after regular partner Max Purcell dropped out that was backdated to December 2024.
’ playing time has been limited due to a series of wrist and knee injuries and he is only in the main draw in the French capital on a protected ranking.
But there is the chance he could be involved at next month in singles action, where he was a beaten finalist in 2022.
Kyrgios, who is also planning to appear at Queen’s, said: “The French Open was never really on the cards.
“But after the stuff with Max Purcell, Jordan was looking for a partner and he asked me if I wanted to play.
“We’ve played at before, so it’ll be good to get out there and play with another fellow Aussie and have a bit of fun.
“I’m excited to get out there and play. I’m hitting the ball well, it’s just a matter of playing matches.
“With this part of my career I’m excited to travel the world and do some fun things whilst I’m out there.”;;
The French Open starts on Sunday May 25 and 14-time champion Rafa Nadal will be honoured following his retirement last year.
Kyrgios was last in action at the Miami Open in March.
The former Wimbledon finalist battled past Mackenzie McDonald in round one before being beaten in straight sets by Karen Khachanov.
That triumph over McDonald was Kyrgios’ first singles win since October 2022.
The former Australian Open men’s doubles champion has been plagued by injuries – playing just one match across the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Last year he at Wimbledon, having been ruled out of playing the tournament with a wrist injury.
