Members of public can compel top qualitaty goods manufacturing – SON

Published on May 15, 2025 at 07:47 PM

The Standard Organisation of Nigeria, SON, has said members of the public can ensure the production of top quality goods in Nigeria.

The organisation, which organised a public sensitization meeting in Yola on Thursday, said it desired members of the public to be its ambassadors by watching out for substandard goods and reporting their manufacturers for appropriate sanctions.

The Head of Corporate Affairs of SON, Mrs Talatu Ethan, who represented the Director General, Dr Ifeanyi Okeke, advised Nigerians to form the habit of buying only goods on which the manufacturing address is indicated and to obtain receipts for such purchases so that the manufacturers could be easily traced if necessary.

“We have offices in all the states. If you find what you buy to be substandard, bring the product and the receipt,”;; she said, adding that SON would get a refund and hold the manufacturer accountable for the product.

She asked members of the public to, in turn, patronise home-made goods, stressing that Nigerians need to put Nigeria first by buying and using goods made in the country rather than products from outside the country.

At the event held in Yola and attended by people from varied sectors as well as manufacturers of certified products, Mrs. Ethan and other SON officials who spoke said they were not asking Nigerians to show their patriotism by buying poor-quality products, as top-quality products are made in Nigeria.

The North East Regional Director of SON, Mr James Yakzum, said, “Nigerian goods are made to last. Where you come across substandard goods, alert us. We are determined to eradicate fake or low-quality products.”;;

He warned Nigerians against buying goods with no physical manufacturing address, as such products may not be genuine and might be difficult to reach for complaint or sanction.
