LaLiga: Real Madrid delay Barcelona’s title party after 2-1 win over Mallorca

Published on May 15, 2025 at 05:41 AM

Real Madrid have ensured that Barcelona will wait for at least another Game Week to be confirmed LaLiga champions, after they came from behind to beat Mallorca 2-1 on Wednesday night.

It was Los Blancos’ first game since Carlo Ancelotti confirmed he would be leaving to take charge of the Brazil national team.

Madrid needed a win to avoid handing Barca the title without their rivals kicking a ball.

But Martin Valjent stunned the hosts with a smart finish in the 11th minute.

Kylian Mbappe levelled with a sublime solo effort in the 68th minute, escaping two challenges to finish into the bottom-left corner.

But a mistake by the visitors in the fifth minute of stoppage time, allowed Jacobo Ramon to pounce on Jesus Vallejo’s flick-on and volley into the net.

Madrid are now four points behind Barcelona with just six to play for.

Hansi Flick’s men now need one win from three matches to reclaim the crown.

Barcelona could be crowned champions when they face Espanyol on Thursday.
