Kebbi flood victims to receive building aid from NEMA, state govt

Hundreds of families displaced by last year’s devastating floods in Kamfani Village, Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, are set to receive building support and relocation assistance from the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and the Kebbi State Government.

The aid forms part of a long-term recovery effort to support victims who lost their homes and livelihoods during the torrential rains that caused widespread flooding across the state. Many of the affected households have been living in precarious conditions since the disaster.

DAILY POST gathered that the flood, which struck during the peak of the rainy season, submerged homes, destroyed farmlands, and left scores of residents in Kamfani Village without shelter or access to basic amenities.

To aid the reconstruction and resettlement process, NEMA has provided essential building materials, including one lorryload of cement, 600 roofing sheets, 200 bundles of zinc, and 50 bags of nails, among other items.

The Director General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, represented by Aliyu Shehu Kashin Dangi, said the support was aimed not only at providing immediate relief but also at promoting long-term stability and resilience within the affected community.

The Kebbi State Government has also established a committee to oversee the allocation of land at a new site designated for the displaced residents of Kamfani Village.

According to the Chairman of the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Alhaji Bello Rilisko, the committee will commence work on Monday to ensure that every displaced household is allocated a plot in the new settlement.
