The Katsina State House of Assembly has officially received a proposal calling for the creation of new emirates within the state, according to a confirmation from the Speaker’s spokesperson Aminu Magaji Idris on Tuesday.
The spokesperson acknowledged the submission of the document but clarified the confusion caused by an earlier denial made during an interview with DCL Hausa on Monday.
Idris explained that his initial statement—that no such proposal had been received—was based on his lack of awareness at the time.
“This issue is not unusual,”;; he stated. “Individuals, groups, or communities can submit petitions, requests, or proposals to the Assembly, and the Assembly has the mandate to deliberate on such matters and make decisions accordingly,”;; he said to a local Newspaper, Katsina Times.
The spokesperson added that he had already left the office before the document was submitted, which accounted for the miscommunication.
Multiple sources within the Assembly also confirmed that the document was indeed submitted and is currently on the Speaker’s desk.
A group had earlier submitted a proposal advocating for the establishment of additional emirates under the Katsina Emirate.
However, Tuesday’s plenary ended without any mention of it.
When the proposal will be formally presented remains uncertain.
