The Kano State Urban Beautification and Landscaping Agency has announced plans to remove all existing billboards and re-register them as part of efforts to regulate and sanitize outdoor advertising across the state.
Director General of the agency, Hajiya Amina Ahmad Ibrahim, made the disclosure on Monday morning in Kano.
According to Hajiya Amina, the move is aimed at reforming the current system of billboard placement in Kano, which she said has become chaotic and is in violation of the agency’s guidelines. She emphasized that the goal is not to target any individual or business but to ensure that advertising structures align with urban planning standards.
“We are not doing this to hurt anyone, but there’s a way bill board placement is done in developed parts of the world,”; She said in a chat with a local radio station in Kano.
Hajiya Amina noted that billboard practices in Kano fall short of the structured systems used in other countries, and that the state will soon adopt a regulated model in line with global best practices.
The agency, she added, will commence implementation once it receives official approval from the Kano State Government.
In a related development, Hajiya Amina revealed that the agency is also partnering with the Kano State Ministry of Environment on a new initiative to collect and recycle waste across the state.
The project aims to improve sanitation, enhance public health, and beautify the city.
She assured residents that the agency is committed to addressing environmental challenges and will not allow issues related to waste and poor hygiene to persist.
