Jigawa commissioner refunds N301m to state treasury

Published on May 06, 2025 at 06:39 PM

Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwalu Danladi Sankara, has refunded N301 million in unspent funds from the 2025 Ramadan feeding programme to the state treasury.

The refund was announced during a state executive council meeting presided over by Governor Malam Umar Namadi, who praised the commissioner for his integrity and fiscal discipline.

The Jigawa State Government had allocated N4.8 billion for the programme, which ran throughout the 29 days of Ramadan, covering all 27 local government areas and operating about 700 feeding centres.

The initiative, managed by a dedicated committee, provided meals to over 5,550 people daily.

Beyond feeding the underprivileged, the programme also boosted the local economy by sourcing food items from within the state.

The council lauded the commissioner’s action as a strong example of transparent governance.
