Fight against corruption in Nigeria not a joke – EFCC Chairman Olukoyede

Published on April 30, 2025 at 07:00 PM

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, on Wednesday stated that the fight against corruption is not a joke.

Olukoyede made this known while appearing on the Channels Television programme, Politics Today.

The anti-graft czar admitted that tackling corruption since he assumed office has been challenging.

He, however, noted that under his leadership, EFCC has introduced reforms to enhance its operations.

According to Olukoyode: “Upon the assumption of office in 2023, I sat with my team and we reviewed the activities of EFCC over the past 18 years, then and we arrived at a conclusion that going forward we must build on some foundations that have been laid. We must review certain areas of the operations of EFCC in order to fully achieve our mandate.

“But I tell you, it’s been quite challenging and eventful as well. So we settled down to introduce some reforms, having been in the system as Chief of Staff and Secretary to the Commission.

“What we saw in our results in 2024 was the product of the reforms we introduced. We introduced some institutional reforms, reformed our processes, procedures, and came to the conclusion that this work of anti-corruption is not just about making noise, it’s about impact.

“And one of the things we agreed was to use the instrumentality of this work to stimulate the economy, and if you follow the way we have been following our investigations, you will understand that is the path we have followed in the last one and a half years.

“By and large, we settled down and produced reforms, and we looked inwards towards areas where we needed to firm up, areas where we needed to let our people know that the fight against corruption is no joke.”;
