EPL: Arteta will be terrified of two things this season – Jamie Redknapp

Published on May 04, 2025 at 01:58 PM

Former Tottenham Hotspur star, Jamie Redknapp has insisted that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will be terrified of being knocked out of the Champions League and not finishing second in the Premier League.

Redknapp spoke after Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

The defeat leaves the Gunners in second position with just three points ahead of third placed Manchester City.

Arsenal are also in the UEFA Champions League semi-final stage, but they need a comeback win against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday after losing 1-0 in the first leg.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Redknapp said: “Mikel Arteta will be terrified now of not only going out of Europe but not finishing second.

“If Man City were going to wobble this year the only team set up to win it were Arsenal.

“If they don’t finish second and don’t win a trophy it ends up being a really poor season because we have spoken about how bad Man City have been – but they can still win a cup and finish second.

“That is a decent season. Arsenal have to finish second,”; he said.

Recall that two goals from Dean Huijsen and Evanilson gave Bournemouth the win over Arsenal as Declan Rice scored the only goal for Arteta’s side.
