Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has enjoined Nigerians not to allow their culture to go into extinction.
Makinde made this declaration on Thursday in Ibadan, the state capital.
He spoke at the grand finale of 2025 World Egungun Festival.
Our correspondent reports that the programme was held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium located at Oke Ado area of Ibadan.
The event was attended by the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, who was represented by the Maye Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Lekan Alabi, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Osun State, Hon Ojo Abiodun, President, Oje Parapo Worldwide, Prince Adeola Adelakun and the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in the state, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun.
Makinde, who was represented by his Deputy, Barrister Adebayo Lawal, called on Nigerians not to allow their culture to go into extinction.
He used the opportunity to reiterate his administration’s continuous support to expanding the scope of culture.
He noted that this will in turn help the state in its drive to generate more revenues from cultural tourism and also boost its economy.
The governor, while addressing the gathering, noted that culture and tourism had been prioritized by his administration.
“We must not allow our culture to go into extinction and I am happy, because it is not only the old people that are here today,”;; he stated.
