The Transmission Company of Nigeria has Sokoto and Kebbi State receiving only between 6 megawatts and 7 MW of bulk electricity from the Mando Transmission Substation via the 132 kilovolt Mando-Zaria-Funtua-Gusau-Talata Mafara-Sokoto-Birnin Kebbi line amid power disruption in the areas.
TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah disclosed in a statement onSaturday.
Recall that three towers of the 330 kilovolt Kainji-Birnin Kebbi transmission line collapsed on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, due to a heavy wind.
However, TCN noted it has kicked off the re-erecting of three towers that collapsed along the 330 kilovolt Kainji-Birnin Kebbi transmission line.
Giving an update of the progress report, Mbah said TCN mobilised three separate contractors to the site, each assigned to handle the reconstruction of one tower.
“This strategic deployment aims to accelerate the restoration process and minimise downtime on the line,”;; TCN stated.
Further stated that the six megawatts and seven megawatts of bulk electricity from the Mando Transmission Substation will serve as backup to cushion the impact of the blackout in the area.
“In the meantime, efforts have been made to cushion the impact of the disruption in bulk power supply to Kaduna DisCo, which affects some of its customers. Sokoto and Birnin Kebbi are currently receiving between 6 MW and 7 MW of bulk electricity from the Mando Transmission substation via the 132 kV Mando-Zaria-Funtua-Gusau-Talata Mafara-Sokoto-Birnin Kebbi line,”;; the statement added.
