A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Segun Sowunmi, has declared that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is not bigger than the party.

Sowunmi said PDP will not die or collapse if Atiku decides to exit the party.

Speaking with Nigerian Info FM 99.3, Sowunmi said Atiku was never bigger than former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan whose participation dwindled but the party still remained.

He said, “You want me to tell you that one human being is the entire party? What about when he left to contest in 2007, did the party die? Where was he in 2015, did the party die?

“Nigeria’s need to stop this, this hero worshipping in Nigeria is our problem in this country. I’m talking to you about party and you want me to reduce it to one person, however, highly played?

“Was Atiku more important than Obasanjo in PDP? Didn’t Obasanjo go? Was Atiku more important than Jonathan in the PDP, didn’t Jonathan do ‘sidon-look?’

“Nigerians need to snap out of this, I’m not diminishing him, I’m trying to tell you that he has not even told you he is leaving.

“What happens if Atiku does not even leave the party? Why are you people always in a hurry to jump into conclusion.

“The man is telling you that he is trying to build a broad coalition of people, they have not taken any final decision, you don’t know what party they are going, you people are insisting that 24 hours of the day; you won’t allow PDP have the opportunity for a breather and you are leaving the other parties without doing anything.”;

There has been speculations about Atiku exiting the former ruling party.

The speculations came after the former Vice President announced the formation of a coalition aimed at wresting power from President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
