The Imo State Police Command has initiated an orderly room trial for three inspectors, one sergeant, and three constables accused of unprofessional behavior, which includes extortion and excessive force against members of the public.

According to a press statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, the trial was prompted by the identification of the officers by complainants, leading to their arrest and subsequent investigation.

He mentioned that the orderly room trial proceedings have begun against the personnel, whose names are Inspector Eyo Udo from the Anti-Vice Unit; Inspector Peter Nweke from the Rapid Response Squad; and Inspector Ita Asuquo from Operation Search and Flush.

Additionally, Sergeant Chukwuka Ekwueme from the Anti-Vice Unit and the trio of Police Constables Onuwa Samuel, Patchris David, and Amos Sunny, all from the Anti-Vice Unit, are also involved.

“It is important to note that some of these personnel were captured in a viral video showing an alleged extortion incident involving operatives connected to a Joint Task Force (JTF) operation at Seven-and-a-Half Junction, Obowo. The personnel from other sister agencies have been referred to their respective organizations for disciplinary measures,” he added.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, assures the public that the disciplinary process will be comprehensive, transparent, and in line with the regulations of the Nigeria Police Force, and the trial's outcome will be publicly disclosed.”
