The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has said that the welfare of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force remains one of the central pillars of his administration.
The Inspector-General of Police said this at the presentation of cheques for group life assurance scheme for 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023 and IG family welfare 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 policies to 1,075 beneficiaries and next of Kins of deceased police officers amounting to over N2.4 billion.
He noted that the payments include recoveries from insurance obligations that had remained outstanding for several years.
Disu maintained that as Inspector-General of Police, the welfare of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force remains one of the central pillars of his administration.
“A police institution that calls upon its personnel to make the highest sacrifices must equally demonstrate responsibility and compassion towards them and their families,” he said.
“This ceremony represents more than the presentation of financial benefits; it is a solemn acknowledgement of the courage, commitment, and ultimate sacrifices made by officers who served this nation with honour.
“To the widows, children, parents, and relatives of our departed colleagues, I extend my deepest condolences. The loss of a loved one is never easy, and no gesture can fully replace the presence of those you have lost.
“These officers were not only members of the Nigeria Police Force; they were fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, and pillars of strength to their families and communities.
“Each day they wore the uniform, they did so with a profound sense of duty, placing the safety and security of others above their own. Their service and sacrifice will forever remain etched in the history of our Force and in the memory of our nation.”
The IGP said the presentation symbolises the NPF’s enduring obligation to stand by the families they left behind, adding that it is a reaffirmation that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to ensuring that the sacrifices of its personnel are recognised and that their loved ones are not forgotten.
He vowed that under his leadership, the welfare of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force will remain a central priority.
“We will continue to strengthen existing welfare frameworks within the Force, particularly those that directly impact the wellbeing of our personnel and their families, especially members of the rank and file who form the backbone of our operational effectiveness,
“Efforts will be intensified to improve administrative efficiency, eliminate unnecessary delays, and ensure that benefits due to personnel and their families are processed and delivered in a timely and transparent manner.
“Our goal is clear: every officer must be assured that the institution they serve with dedication and sacrifice will stand firmly by them and their families in times of need,” he said.
