The Wake-Wake Association of Taraba State has condemned the alleged assault on the councillor representing Mayo Gwoi Ward, Murtala Riki Riki, in Jalingo, the state capital
The councilor was alleged to have been attacked on Wednesday by thugs during a town hall meeting held in Northern Taraba with Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Umar Sani Bello, on Thursday, the association described the attack allegedly carried out by political thugs as a direct threat to democracy and public engagement.
The incident reportedly occurred during what was meant to be a peaceful dialogue between the governor and stakeholders on development-related issues.
“Violence and intimidation have no place in our democracy,” the association declared.

The Wake-Wake Association called for the immediate constitution of an independent and impartial investigative committee to probe the incident.
It also urged Governor Kefas to take urgent action by ensuring that those responsible are identified and held accountable.
“The people of Taraba State deserve leaders who uphold peace, accountability, and the rule of law,” the association said, warning that continued silence on such issues would further erode public confidence in the political process.
