Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has disbursed the final installment of the N8.234 billion severance gratuity, accommodation, and leave allowances to 1,371 former local government councillors who served from 2021 to 2024.

According to Governor Yusuf, during a statement made on Wednesday at Government House, Kano, this payment has resolved all outstanding liabilities owed to them by the state government.

The former councillors celebrated with cheers, expressions of achievement, and dances of victory as they had long awaited their dues since 2021.

Governor Yusuf recalled that during the previous disbursement of councillors’ gratuities, he had assured the beneficiaries that the final payment would be completed before the end of 2025. He stated, “Today, you can see that we have not only honored our commitments but have settled all debts owed to you.”

The governor expressed his gratitude to God for the opportunity to fulfill this promise, highlighting that the completion of these payments represents a significant milestone for his administration.

He stated that with the release of the final payment, all financial obligations to former local government council members have been fully addressed.

He revealed that over ₦8 billion was disbursed in this final installment, bringing the total amount paid to former councillors to over ₦15 billion. According to the governor, this initiative clearly demonstrates his administration’s commitment to social justice, fairness, and the welfare of citizens, irrespective of political affiliation.
