Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has authorized the release of over N21 billion for the payment of retirement and death gratuities to employees of the state, local governments, and the Local Education Authority.
This approval was announced on Thursday by the Head of Civil Service of the state, Alhaji Falalu Bawale, during the first meeting of the committee established to oversee the distribution of the funds.
Bawale mentioned that the funds are designated to settle all outstanding retirement and death benefits for the period from September 2023 to October 2025, emphasizing that this initiative aims to alleviate the difficulties faced by retired workers and the families of deceased employees.
He noted that N7.7 billion has been approved as a one-time payment to settle gratuities owed to former state civil servants, which will be disbursed in December 2025.
Additionally, over N14 billion has been allocated for former staff of local governments and the Local Education Authority, indicating that this amount will be distributed in installments over four months, from December 2025 to March 2026.
The Head of Service clarified that the governor’s approval is part of ongoing efforts to eliminate existing backlogs and enhance the welfare of retirees throughout the state.
He recalled that Governor Radda had previously authorized the release of over N23 billion, which was utilized to settle outstanding retirement and death benefits owed to workers from January 2019 to August 2023.
