Gombe judge withdraws from high-profile land dispute, citing personal interest

The long-running legal battle between Grandscope Construction Company and Emir General Integrated Limited took a new twist on Wednesday as Justice Fati Musa of High Court No. 7 in Gombe recused herself from the case, citing personal interest.

Announcing her withdrawal during a court session, Justice Musa stated that personal reasons could influence her judgment, prompting her decision to step down in the interest of fairness.

She directed that the case file be forwarded to the Chief Judge for reassignment to another judge.

Barrister Daniel Tsaro, counsel to Grandscope Construction Company, commended the judge’s move, calling it a responsible step that reinforces judicial integrity.

“This isn’t just unprecedented. Her action shows dedication to impartiality,”; Tsaro noted.

Suleiman Abdurrahim, representing Emir General Integrated Limited, also supported the withdrawal, acknowledging the judge’s right to step aside if objectivity might be compromised.

He revealed that his legal team had filed for a court injunction to halt ongoing construction on the disputed land.

The dispute, which began over four months ago, originated from a court order mandating Grandscope Construction Company to cease construction activities on the contested property. Allegations of non-compliance with the order have since escalated the matter.

The land in question, located along the strategically important Gombe-Bajoga highway, has attracted public interest and legal scrutiny.

As both parties await the reassignment of the case, they have expressed confidence in a fair resolution moving forward.
