Gombe approves new allowance for LG, education workers

Published on June 19, 2025 at 08:51 PM

The Gombe State Government has approved the payment of an additional ₦5,000 allowance to staff under the Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) across the state, beginning from June 2025.

This decision was reached at a high-level meeting held on Tuesday, June 18, and presided over by the Head of Civil Service. The meeting also had in attendance representatives from labour unions and senior government officials.

According to a memo signed by Jibrin Yusuf on behalf of the Head of Civil Service, Ahmed Abdullahi, the allowance will be paid as a temporary support measure while the ongoing Physical Verification Exercise is concluded.

“I am directed to write and inform you that approval has been granted for the payment of additional ₦5,000 to all Local Government and Local Education Authority staff across the state pending the completion of the current Physical Verification Exercise, with effect from June 2025,”; the memo stated.

It further noted that the increment would be formally captured in the July 2025 payroll, with the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development directed to ensure prompt implementation.

Reports however said despite this development, many LGA workers are still awaiting the implementation of consequential adjustments to their wages.
