Hailey Cowan was viciously knocked out by Alice Pereira at the latest UFC Fight Night, but it could have been a lot worse if the referee wasn’t on his toes.

The glam fighter, who had over 50k followers on Instagram, was on top of Pereira and doing well in the fight.

But when the ladies got back to their feet, Pereria uncorked a fearsome knee that instantly knocked out Cowan.

As the Texan fell to the mat, her Brazilian foe managed to land a couple of shots to her head as Cowan lay there unconscious.

The referee then smothered Cowan to prevent any further attack and call the fight off.

Of course, Pereira was just doing what all fighters are trained to do. They have to finish the fight; they can’t assume that it is over.

Pereria has extended her record to 7-1. She is the youngest-ever female fighter to win a fight in the UFC, and the youngest to score a knockout.

Cowan has now sadly lost three fights on the bounce in the UFC having been submitted in her previous outing.

Despite the brutal knockout of the year contender, Cowan was surprisingly upbeat on social media.

She wrote: “God is still good. I still have lots to smile about 🙂 and I am just fine. Heartbroken, but blessed.

“Passion is what we do, purpose is why we do it.

“Thank you Jesus for the courage to do scary things and to dream big. Chin is still high.”
