Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced that the 2026 Appropriation Bill will be laid before lawmakers in the new House of Assembly complex, which is currently being rebuilt by his administration.
The governor gave the assurance on Monday after touring the construction site on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, where he expressed satisfaction with the pace of work.
According to him, the main contractor, MCC, has handed over the interior finishing to Julius Berger to expedite delivery.
He said the decision was part of efforts to ensure the project is completed on schedule.
The reconstruction became necessary after the former Assembly complex was demolished following a fire incident linked to the political crisis in the state in October 2023.
Fubara noted that the new structure should be ready for use by December 2025.
The governor also emphasized the need for lawmakers, who currently sit in a temporary chamber at their residential quarters, to return to their permanent legislative home now that political hostilities have eased.
“We have worked diligently to ensure their chambers are ready,” he said.
“You know the challenges that affected our relationship before.
But, by the special grace of God, everything has been resolved, and we are determined to ensure the Assembly returns to its rightful place.”
Fubara added that while the undamaged section of the old complex remains under the supervision of the Speaker, the state government is focused on delivering the main reconstruction to restore full legislative operations.
