The political crisis in Rivers State has taken a new turn, with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, cautioning political figures against misusing the state's resources on Saturday.

Addressing Governor Sim Fubara, Wike emphasized that no one would be permitted to use the state's funds to recruit voters from the North, East, West, or South in the upcoming 2027 elections.

While speaking to the residents of Okirika during his Thank You Visit to various local governments in Rivers State, Wike warned that such political actors would find it difficult to secure tickets in 2027.

He cautioned those who have recently begun praising President Bola Tinubu with the slogan “On Your Mandate We Shall Stand” to abandon hopes of reelection in 2027.

Wike stated: “I have previously mentioned that all those who are chanting ‘on your mandate’ should recognize that while it is commendable to shout ‘on your mandate,’ joining in does not guarantee an automatic ticket.”

“If you choose to use our funds to hire individuals from the North, South, West, or East, that is unacceptable. Look at the challenges we faced in 2023; you came out to vote for someone, and in the end, the return on that investment was disappointing. Are you foolish? We are not.”

“I want to assure you that we are united; there are no party divisions here, only the renewed Hope family.”

The Minister urged the citizens of the state to vote for candidates with integrity.

He remarked: “The President has honored his commitments, which is why it is essential to vote for individuals of character, so you can return home and sleep peacefully.”

“We made a mistake, but we will not dwell on it; we will rectify it this time.”
