Mbappe lashed into the far corner at New York-New Jersey Stadium.
And the 27-year-old took off straight for the dugout to celebrate with boss Deschamps.
The France manager was forced to fly home last week after the death of his mother.
Deschamps left the team after their second group game – and missed the clash with Norway.
But he was back in the dugout for the knockout clash against Sweden on Tuesday.
And there were emotional scenes as Mbappe and his teammates ran straight towards him to celebrate the opening goal just before half-time.
France came into the game as winners of Group I.
They beat Senegal and Iraq before Deschamps left the team.
Assistant Guy Stephan took control of the game against Norway, which they won 4-1.
Deschamps has been manager of the France national team since 2012.
He won the World Cup as a player in 1998, followed by the Euros in 2000.
As manager, he led the French team to the 2018 World Cup and also guided them to the final four years ago.
