Former Manchester United defender, Paul Parker, has hit out at midfielder Bruno Fernandes following his recent revelation of Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in signing him.
Fernandes had admitted in an interview with The Athletic earlier this week that he was angry when his move to Tottenham fell through.
He eventually joined Man United from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 in a £67m move.
The Portugal international hit the ground running at Old Trafford, scoring 37 goals and providing 26 assists in 93 appearances.
But things could have been different for Fernandes, as Tottenham tried to sign him while Mauricio Pochettino was in charge but Sporting Lisbon rejected their advances.
However, Parker, who has not been too pleased with Fernandes’ attitude of late, has claimed that Spurs would have been the better option for him, adding that he plays ‘rubbish’ when things are not going right.
Speaking on the development, Parker told BeMyBet, “We have to turn around and say maybe Pochettino looked at the players that he had and didn’t want him if he didn’t sign him. They probably didn’t offer as much money as Manchester United, which totally makes sense because United do overpay when they are signing players.”
He added: “But it would probably have been a better idea to go to Tottenham because [Manchester] United are too big of a club for him in the sense that you can see how rubbish he plays when things ain’t going right.”
