The threat comes as property developers look to build on land currently occupied by National Golf Club and Chipstead Golf Club.
has expressed interest in building up to 300 homes on the Chipstead Golf Club territory, with pre-planning application documents submitted to the council in late July.
The family-owned course dates back to 1906 and sits at the heart of the village.
The proposals have already attracted significant opposition from local residents.
Almost 150 comments have reportedly been submitted, with just three supporting the development.
Concerns have already been raised over issues including traffic and the loss of green space.
Meanwhile, Barratt Homes has confirmed it is exploring plans that could see homes built across the land occupied by the 18-hole Surrey National Golf Club.
The developer has an agreement with the club to promote the land for potential development through Tandridge Council’s Local Plan process.
A spokesperson for Barratt Homes told SurreyLive: “We are currently exploring the preparation of a planning application which if successful would deliver much needed new homes in Surrey. We will share further updates in due course.”
Tandridge is expected to deliver 12,300 homes over the next 15 years under government targets.
The club has already informed members about the potential development, stressing that golf is expected to continue for the foreseeable future.
However, neither golf course is confirmed to be closing, with planning proposals still at an early stage.
