The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cautioned residents of Ekiti State against participating in multiple registrations for the Permanent Voter Card (PVC), emphasizing that violators will face appropriate legal repercussions.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Bunmi Omoseyindemi, issued this warning while addressing journalists in Ado Ekiti on Monday, announcing the launch of the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the state.

He stated, “Anyone who attempts to engage in multiple registrations or commits other violations during the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise in the state will be dealt with according to the law.”

Omoseyindemi clarified that this new phase of the exercise aims to accommodate eligible voters who were unable to register during the first phase or need to update their personal information.

He remarked, “This phase offers another chance for those who missed phase one to register or amend their details.”

He urged stakeholders to enhance mobilization efforts, particularly among first-time voters, advising them to “Encourage those who have not registered in previous exercises, especially those who have just turned 18, to do so in order to fulfill their civic duty of voting in the June 20 elections and future polls.”

The REC recalled that the initial phase of the CVR, which commenced on August 25, 2025, concluded on December 10, 2025, allowing for the voters’ register to be displayed for public review.

He added, “Following the first phase, the display of claims and objections occurred from December 15 to 21, 2025.”

“This provided an opportunity for stakeholders and the public to voice any concerns regarding the registration data.

“It allowed those who had registered to review the list for corrections, particularly addressing any misspellings of names and other inaccuracies.”

INEC has set June 20 for the Ekiti State governorship election, with the new administration expected to take office on October 16.

The commission also published the provisional list of candidates for the election on December 29, 2025.

According to INEC guidelines, political parties have until January 12 to withdraw and replace candidates, with the final list of candidates to be released on January 19.

Reiterating INEC’s dedication to fair elections, Omoseyindemi called on political parties, politicians, voters, and residents of the state to support initiatives aimed at bolstering public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.
