Muslims across the 23 local government areas from the three senatorial districts of Kaduna State, on Friday observed prayers at their different mosques, signifying the commencement of
Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
Popular roads within the city, Ahmadu Bello Way, College Road, Stadium Roundabout, were all deserted as shops and business centres remained locked and keyed.
It was also observed that even street beggars deserted the popular joints and migrated to the entrance gates of mosques, as all their attention was focused on influential worshippers for alms.
There was an exchange of pleasantries among smiling worshippers, showing love, kindness, and feelings of joy.
Although security operatives were stationed at various strategic worship centres, guarding against any unforeseen circumstances, several worshippers expressed joy, happiness, and gratitude to God for witnessing another celebration.
According to Mallam Muhammadu Abdullah, a motorcycle mechanic, “Although I have had no business since the beginning of this month, seeing today is a great privilege and opportunity I will never take for granted as I continue to worship my God always.”;
Hajiya Sadautu Lukeman, who lost her husband last year, thanked God for witnessing another moment of joy.
According to her, “I lost my husband, our breadwinner. Since then, my children have been out of school because there’s no one to pay their school fees, as I have nothing doing. Although I have nothing to celebrate, good health is a great privilege.”;
A beggar, Salisu Adamu, who spoke to the DAILY POST correspondent, said his joy was full because of gifts from loving, kindhearted individuals coming out of the mosque.
“How I wish Sallah continues for a month. I have realized over N10,000 within one hour, unlike ordinary days when I cannot make up to N1,000. People are giving alms cheerfully,”; he said.
Although children were seen sharing food and drinks with the households of their loved ones, what people in the state enjoyed most was the peaceful atmosphere, devoid of any attack.
