The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, Rashid Afegbua, has directed intensified security operations across the state as Muslims continue celebrations marking Eid-el-Fitr.
Afegbua ordered Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Tactical Commanders, Special Squads, Surveillance and Patrol Teams to monitor hoodlums and other criminal elements during the festive period.
He specifically instructed security teams to embark on continuous and massive raids of identified black spots within their areas of responsibility to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
The directive, according to a statement by the Command, is part of efforts to combat crime and criminality in the state during festive periods.
The police boss, however, cautioned that all operations must be conducted strictly in line with the Standard Operating Procedures of the Nigeria Police Force.
He warned that the Command would not tolerate any individual or group attempting to disrupt public peace during and after the celebrations.
Afegbua also confirmed the deployment of personnel and operational resources to strategic locations across the state to strengthen security coverage.
He urged residents, particularly Muslim faithful, to celebrate with restraint and dignity, assuring the public of adequate safety throughout the festivities.
The Commissioner further called on citizens to support security agencies with credible information to aid in maintaining peace and order.
Meanwhile, Governor Bassey Otu has extended warm felicitations to Muslim faithful in Cross River State and across Nigeria on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr.
In a goodwill message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Linus Obogo, the governor commended Muslims for successfully completing the Ramadan fast, describing it as a profound demonstration of spiritual discipline, sacrifice and devotion.
Otu urged the faithful to sustain the virtues of humility, compassion, generosity and unity imbibed during Ramadan, stressing that such values are critical to peaceful coexistence and national development.
