According to Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok, a total of 11 individuals were taken to the hospital, while numerous others were treated for minor injuries.
Over 60 police officers and 70 firefighters responded to the scene.
The two trains involved included the Tatran express traveling between Kosice and Bratislava, and a regional express train connecting Nitra to the capital.

The metalwork has been severely damaged due to the impact of the collision.
Bratislava police stated: “At 7:31 PM, we received a report on line 158 regarding a collision between two trains on the Pezinok – Bratislava Main Station section.
“All emergency services are being deployed to the site.”
