A DOG has been rescued from a Ben Nevis peak after she was thought to have munched on cannabis that was dumped on the trail.

The black lab named Tokyo was scaling Britain’s tallest mountain with owner Christina Bluhme when she began to act strangely.

Christina and her poor were halfway towards Ben Nevis’ 4,413ft summit last weekend when Tokyo collapsed and lost consciousness.

Horrified dog trainer Christina called Lochaber Mountain rescue and the team carried her 8st 9lb pup on a stretcher to safety.

Christina, from , feared her furry friend wouldn’t make it.

She said Tokyo suddenly became critically ill after the curious canine ingested what “vets believe was left on the trail”.

“She quickly lost the use of her legs, drifted in and out of consciousness and I genuinely thought I was going to lose her.

“Without the incredible Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, there is simply no way I could have got her safely off the mountain.

“Carrying a 25kg Labrador down Ben Nevis was impossible on my own.”

Christina said the labrador was rushed to Crown Vets in Fort William, where she remained unconscious for much of the journey and later at the vet.

Thankfully, Tokyo made a full recovery the following day.

A spokesman for Lochaber Mountain Rescue said: “Following a request to assist a collapsed dog on Sunday, we’re pleased to confirm that Tokyo has made a full recovery, having been cared for at Crown Vets.

“It’s now suspected that Tokyo, a usually very fit and active working dog, had ingested something that made her critically unwell.

“Many thanks to Crown Vets for their support, and to Tokyo’s owner for the update and photos.”

Tokyo’s rescue was the team’s 116th call out in what is heading to be a record year.

Christina said: “A little reminder to fellow dog owners: discarded and other toxic substances can sometimes be found even in the most beautiful outdoor places.”
