The International President of De Norsemen Kclub International (DNKI), Aniekanabasi Paulinus Alban (SKILLA), has urged the Federal Government and airline operators to promptly reduce the excessive costs of air travel in Nigeria, warning that the current fares are putting significant strain on families amid ongoing economic difficulties.

Alban made this appeal while addressing journalists at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, shortly after participating in the DNKI Zonal Stakeholders’ Meeting in the Federal Capital Territory.

He emphasized that the burden of high flight costs is especially concerning as many Nigerians prepare to travel for the Christmas holidays. According to him, a festive season that should typically be filled with joy and family gatherings has instead become a source of worry for numerous households due to skyrocketing transportation expenses.

“The current airfares are simply too high and unsustainable for the average Nigerian,” the DNKI President stated. “This situation imposes unnecessary stress and financial strain on families, particularly during a time meant for togetherness and celebration.”

Dr. Alban also criticized the poor condition of federal roads across the nation, describing it as a significant factor contributing to the challenges faced by commuters. He expressed concern that journeys that should normally take about 45 minutes by air now require nearly an entire day by road, exposing travelers to unnecessary risks, delays, and fatigue.

He called on the relevant authorities to urgently address the nation’s road infrastructure issues, emphasizing that efficient transportation is vital for economic growth, national unity, and the welfare of citizens.

Reaffirming DNKI’s core values of service, compassion, and brotherhood, Dr. Alban revealed that the organization plans to enhance its humanitarian outreach during the Christmas season.

He announced that DNKI would extend support to widows and children of deceased members, in line with the spirit of Christmas and the club’s enduring tradition of caring for its members. He also mentioned that the organization would reach out to less fortunate members of society, providing relief and assistance to those in need.

“DNKI is an organization founded on selfless service to humanity,” he remarked. “This Christmas, we will stand by the widows and children of our departed brothers, and we will also extend love and support to the disadvantaged in our society.”

The International President also encouraged all DNKI state chapters across the country to actively engage in community-based humanitarian initiatives during the festive season.

“I urge all our state chapters to bring joy to the faces of the less privileged in their respective communities. Let this season remind us of our shared humanity and our responsibility to each other,” he added.
