I’m the best darts player in the world but I’ve kept myself busy building a property empire, says Gerwyn Price

GERWYN PRICE intends to focus fully on darts in the New Year and put his growing property empire on hold.

The Welshman, 37, might be top of the world rankings but he has only one major title on his resume from a disappointing 2022 campaign.

Off the oche, the Iceman loves to buy homes and oversee a complete refurbishment.

Yet the process of working in bricks and mortar is very time consuming and mentally draining — and he plans to dedicate himself to his sporting ambitions.

Price, the 2021 world champion, said: “I’m building my own property which I’m hoping to get finished by February or March but I’m not doing any more after that.

“I might invest in properties which are already done up, but otherwise I’m not doing anything else.

“I’m going to take a year out and channel 100% of my focus into darts.

“I’m not sure if that will be a good thing or a bad thing, because I’ve always had other interests to keep me occupied.

“Maybe I’ll take up golf, but I want to have a year living stress-free, not worrying about things back home where I need certain things to be in the right place.

“I enjoy doing it, but sometimes it can be a distraction when you’re trying to keep everything ordered.

“I’d have brickies in, knowing there was first fix on the electrics and wiring to follow, ready for someone to come in and board and plaster. The logistics can be time-consuming.

“The house I’m building is only four bedrooms, but it’s a nice size with a decent open space downstairs and a darts practice room.”
