Activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Timi Frank, has welcomed the resignation of Engr. Farouk Ahmed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) following corruption allegations made against him by Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Refinery.

In a statement on Thursday, Frank highlighted that Ahmed’s resignation is merely the beginning, not the end, of the situation.

“Resignation is not an admission of guilt; it is just the initial step. What must follow is a comprehensive investigation and, if necessary, arrest and prosecution,” he stated.

Frank urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and other pertinent anti-corruption agencies to promptly investigate and prosecute Ahmed regarding the allegations made by Dangote.

He also expressed concern over the apparent inaction of these agencies more than 72 hours after the allegations became public, noting that only the ICPC had confirmed receipt of a petition.

“More than 72 hours after these serious allegations were disclosed, the silence of our anti-corruption agencies is extremely alarming and unacceptable in a nation that professes to uphold the rule of law,” Frank remarked.

He further questioned the prospects for justice for ordinary Nigerians given the current circumstances. “If Aliko Dangote cannot receive justice in a case of this nature, then one must wonder what hope remains for the average Nigerian,” he stated.

Ahmed announced his resignation on Thursday after Dangote accused him of paying $5 million for his children's tuition.
