The global spread of the coronavirus is advancing. But in most countries, there are only a few infected people. Asia continues to be the hardest hit. The number of corona cases is also increasing in Germany.

No continent without a coronavirus – the novel pathogen has spread everywhere. Australia and the USA are now also reporting the first death. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), almost 3,000 people have died so far. The number of confirmed infections worldwide is just under 90,000. However, the spread of the virus has been low in most countries around the world – with the exception of Asia. An overview:


For all of Germany, the Robert Koch Institute counted 66 proven infections with the pathogen Sars-CoV-2 by Saturday morning. A number of additional cases were registered in several federal states during the day.

Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn emphasized that, according to current knowledge, four out of five coronavirus infections were mild or even completely symptom-free. However, the greater the number of infections, the higher the likelihood of severe courses, pneumonia or death, said Spahn. With the most recent cases, Germany ranks tenth among the countries most affected by the coronavirus worldwide.

Italy in third place worldwide

By far the largest number of coronavirus infections detected in Europe are in ItalyWHO currently has almost 1,300 infections, especially in Lombardy and in the city of Vo in the Veneto region. 29 people died of the lung disease Covid-19, which is caused by the Sars-CoV-2 pathogen. This makes Italy the third most affected country in the world after China and South Korea.

In France, the number of people infected with the novel coronavirus has risen to 100. So far, two people have died.

In Spain, the number of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 rose to 50. According to the authorities, these are mainly imported cases – most of them would have been infected in Italy. Visits to Italy are also responsible for the first two confirmed Corona cases in Luxembourg and Ireland. In the UK, the number of known infections is 23, one person died.

Overall, almost all countries on the European continent are affected. To date, a total of 32 people have died from Covid-19 in Europe.


The majority of cases worldwide continue to be in China, particularly in the Hubei province. The Chinese government reported 573 new cases of infection on Sunday, bringing the total number of people infected to almost 80,000. This includes all cases from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau.

After all, the number of new infections has been relatively low for a few days, it is well below the numbers from January to mid-February. The number of fatalities rose by 35 to 2870, the National Health Commission said. These are also fewer new deaths than on Saturday.

South Korea is the second most affected. The health authority reported hundreds of new cases again this Sunday: 376 new infections in total. In total, more than 3,500 people have contracted the new virus in South Korea. 17 people died. The Seoul government announced the highest level of crisis alert in the fight against the coronavirus epidemic.

Iran complains of many Covid 19 deaths

Japan has more than 900 infections and 12 deaths. Most of them – more than 700 – are passengers and crew members of the cruise ship Diamond Princess. In the fight against the virus, all schools in Japan will remain closed until at least the end of March.

In Iran, there is – to China – so far the most deaths. So far, 43 people have died in the Islamic Republic. This is a very high death rate for 593 people currently infected.

The country most affected here in Kuwait with 45 coronavirus cases. The United Arab Emirates followed with 19 and Iraq with 13 cases. Israel reported seven, Oman six coronavirus infections.


To date, only three cases of infection with the Sars CoV-2 pathogen have been identified on the African continent: one in Algeria, one in Egypt and one in Nigeria.


Meanwhile, Australia is also complaining of a first death: the 78-year-old man was infected onboard the Japanese cruise ship Diamond Princess, it is said.

The government in Canberra prohibits foreigners who come directly from Iran from entering the country. As of this Sunday, they should have been in another country for 14 days before they could enter the country, said Health Minister Greg Hunt. Australians and permanent residents of the country should be quarantined at home for two weeks.


So far, there has been one death in the United States. A total of 62 people are infected with the coronavirus here. Washington also tightened travel restrictions: foreigners who have been to China or Iran in the past 14 days are not allowed to enter the country. Neighboring Canada now has 19 coronavirus cases, Mexico and Brazil reported two, Ecuador one infected.
