The Controller General of the Nigeria Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, has cautioned agency personnel against job racketeering.
Adeyemi delivered this warning during his initial official visit to the Abuja Metropolitan Command in Kubwa.
He emphasized that firefighting is more than just a paid position, referring to it as a “sacred calling” aimed at safeguarding lives and property.
“The fire service is not merely a job where you earn a salary for fighting fires. It is a calling because you are working to save lives and protect property.
“You are saving entire communities, institutions, and landmarks. While others flee from fire, firefighters bravely advance toward it,” he stated.
He also committed to advocating for enhanced funding through first-line charge status, noting that he has already engaged with the Accountant General of the Federation to discuss this issue.
The Fire Service leader further assured personnel of improved welfare, announcing an increase in the staff cooperative loan limit from N300,000 to N500,000.
