Buni calls for stronger ties between army, Air Force amid renewed terrorist attacks in Yobe

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has urged the Nigerian Army and Air Force to deepen their operational collaboration in the fight against terrorism and rising insecurity across the country. His call comes in the wake of a deadly ambush by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military bridge in Buni Gari, Gujba Local Government Area, where four soldiers were reportedly killed.

Governor Buni made the appeal on Wednesday while receiving the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Damaturu. During the meeting, Buni reaffirmed the commitment of both his administration and the people of Yobe to support the military fully and all other security agencies operating in the state.

“Security is a collective responsibility,”; the governor said. “We will do everything within our power to ensure the success of the fight against terrorism and restore peace to every part of the state.”;

The governor commended the Nigerian military for their unwavering resilience and sacrifice in the face of persistent insurgent threats. He assured that Yobe State would remain a strong partner in efforts to protect the region from terrorist activities.

In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, General Oluyede, reassured the governor of the military’s determination to reinforce security in Yobe. He revealed plans to deploy additional troops and equipment to strengthen the fight against insurgency in the state. He also appealed to citizens to support military efforts by providing credible intelligence, adding, “We must not allow the situation in the Sahel to spill into Nigeria. It requires our collective resolve to win this war.”;

His visit coincided with another attempted assault by ISWAP fighters in Izge village, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, which left an army captain dead and several soldiers injured.
