The former Secretary of the APC Diaspora Chairmen, Mr Ayoola Lawal, has said former president Muhammadu Buhari was a symbol of national discipline in Nigeria.

Lawal, also a former chairman of the APC in the Scandinavia Countries described Buhari as a symbol of moral clarity and principled leadership, whose legacy would stand the test of time.

This is contained in Lawal’s condolence message to Nigeria and family of the late president, whose remains would be buried today (Tuesday) in his hometown, Daura, Katsina.

The APC chieftain, who expressed deep sorrow over the demise, said the former president was more than a leader.

“Buhari was an anchor in turbulent times and a moral compass for many of us in the diaspora, who saw in him, a genuine desire to rebuild a broken nation,”; Lawal stated.

He noted that Buhari’s legacy within the APC family and across Nigeria was one built on courage, personal sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to the Nigerian project.

As secretary of the APC committee of diaspora chairmen during Buhari’s tenure, Lawal recalled how the former president inspired many Nigerians abroad to reconnect with their homeland.

“Buhari believed in Nigeria’s potential, and actively contributed to its political and socio-economic development.

In an Ode titled, “Tributes from the Heart”; Lawal stated:

“To the soldier who became a democrat , your strength was in your patience, and your power was in your restraint.

“To the incorruptible leader, you made modesty honourable and integrity fashionable.

“To the father of modern Nigeria’s anti-corruption war -your war was unpopular but your conscience was clear.

“To the quiet visionary, the rails, roads, and refineries you planted will serve generations yet unborn.

“Buhari stood tall among African leaders. He didn’t just seek applause, he sought to restore values.

“His legacy is not only cast in bricks and mortar but in the conscience of a nation that began to believe in honesty again.”;

While acknowledging that no leader is without flaws, Lawal emphasised that Buhari’s contributions to peace, infrastructural development, and national integrity were irrefutable and would endure as a guiding light for future administrations.
