The victim was found in the shower with stab wounds to his back, torso and left hand, as well as a pillow under his head.

One of the victim’s concerned friends had previously alerted police because the businessman was not picking up his phone.

The worried pal rushed over to his mate’s luxury home in Pattaya where he found the body in the bathroom.

The suspect Carreras, originally from Stafford, was lying next to him sobbing.

Inside the villa, cops described seeing blood-stained furniture as well as several items being thrown across the ground.

Officers also found blood on tiles and cabinets in the bathroom and several towels dyed red from the blood of the Brit.

They allege his wife was trying to clean up the crime scene before they rushed round to the villa.

Initial investigations point towards the body being killed at least six hours before it was found.

Police said that a 20-inch zombie-knife found in the sink was the murder weapon and that it had showed signs of being wiped clean.

The wife was questioned at the scene as cops reportedly found cuts on her fingers.

She professed her innocence and claimed he had taken his own life.

After claiming the Brit’s death was a suicide, Carreras then alleged he was “really into grass recently”, referring to Marijuana, and that he “had been taking six strips of Valium daily”.

Police Colonel Nattapon Phongsuksakul said they were combing through CCTV footage at their home to determine how the fatal stabbing unfolded.

He said: “It is a murder case inside a house, with the body ultimately being found in the bathroom.

“The wife denied committing the murder. However, based on the wounds, it is difficult for us to accept that claim because there was clearly a stab wound to the back.”

Thai police have confirmed that they are treating this as a murder case, not an act of self-defence.

Neighbours have recalled the couple moving into their house two weeks earlier.

They said the pair were known to smoke regularly with Phongsuksakul confirming tests are being ran to determine if it had been used prior to the Brit’s death.

Phongsuksakul also said: “Based on the evidence gathered so far, investigators believe Ms Isabelle Violet Carreras was responsible for the killing.

“She has now been formally charged with murder, but she continues to deny the allegation during questioning.

“The investigation is still ongoing. We are still awaiting the full autopsy report, forensic examination results and DNA analysis before finalising the case file.”

He added: “There is evidence that cannabis was consumed, and we believe it is possible that cannabis intoxication contributed to the suspect‘s actions.”

Police alleged the murder took place at 4am local time but that no one was notified until 9.30am.

The couple was initially believed to have been married, but police have not confirmed this yet.

The Foreign Office told The Sun: “We are supporting the families of two British nationals in Thailand and are in contact with the local authorities.”
