10 Tips To Stay Optimistic During Lockdown

We are all feeling the effects of the current lockdown restrictions and I thought it would be a good time to write a little post giving my top 10 tips to stay optimistic during this uncertain time. Remember this is a hard time for everyone and you do not have to be productive every single day. Go at your own pace and try to stay as positive as you can.

Start Each Day in a Positive Way

The first of my 10 tips to stay optimistic is to start every morning in a positive way to set your day off right. If you jump out of bed late feeling stressed and rushed, you’ll start your day with many negative thoughts. However, if you start your day by getting up slowly and doing something you enjoy, you are much more likely to have a positive and uplifting day. For example, start your day off with a nice book or a podcast or maybe listen to some music. Do something that makes you feel happy and set your day off the right way.

Write Down Your Goals and Objectives

If I am ever feeling down or unmotivated, I like to write down my goals. It could be goals for the future or just goals for the day, but it automatically makes me feel motivated and optimistic for the future. Its important throughout lockdown to still feel a sense of achievement in every day and encourage yourself to be the best version of yourself. I have recently started manifesting and I am finding it helpful in staying motivated and improving my self-confidence.

Stay Optimistic: Start a Gratitude Journal

Similarly why not start a gratitude journal. Starting a journal is a wonderful way to stay positive every single day with no effort. Once a day jot down three aspects of your day you feel thankful and happy for. It can be something small such as going on a walk and seeing a beautiful sunset or something big like getting offered your dream job or passing your driving test.

Write down all your little wins and it will help you develop a positive and grateful outlook on life.

Healthy Body, Healthy Mind

Maintaining a positive and healthy lifestyle is not only beneficial to your physical health, it is also a massive benefit to your mental health. For some people positive thinking comes naturally. However, for others, staying positive can become a task and it is easy to get stuck in a negative mindset.

Maintaining a healthy and balanced diet can massively help your mental state. For me, eating junk food too often can make me feel sluggish and super unmotivated. Consume super foods your body needs to stay healthy and exercise often.

We are in a pandemic so a level of comfort eating is of course allowed but try not to get too caught up as your health should always be a massive priority!

Add Value and Happiness to Someone Else’s Life

Treat others how you want to be treated. Why not impact someone else’s life today? We are all in the same position so send a little message to your friend asking how they are. If you have the money, why not send a little pick me up gift to a loved one?

End a Habit in 30 Days

I am on a mission through lockdown to break some of my awful habits. Focusing on things you want to improve on can be a healthy distraction throughout this time. One of the main habits I am looking at eliminating is spending money! I spend too much money on silly things so this lockdown I am going to try to cut down my spending, online shopping is my weakness so this is a tough one for me.

Learn a New Skill

Now is the perfect time to pick up a new hobby or learn a new skill. With all this time on our hands its time to focus and start a new hobby. I am spending my lockdown blogging as I find it occupies my mind and takes my mind off what’s happening in the world, if only for a few hours. Some ideas could be to start learning how to cook, learn a new language or start a blog!

Practise Self-Care

I know I preach about self-care all the time, but it is so important to take care of your physical and mental health. You time is very important towards developing a positive attitude. Consider ways that help you unwind and de-stress. This can be through watching a film or doing a little face mask. Try each day to do something that’s makes you feel good and relaxed. I personally love having a bath and putting a film on and just having a huge relax and a detox.

Clean Your Room

Cleaning your room can massively improve your mood as studies have found working in an untidy environment can make you feel down and unorganised. Cleaning isn’t for everyone, but it can be super therapeutic and relaxing. Get the rubber gloves out and give your house a massive clean and declutter while you have the chance. Sort out your draws and donate unwanted gifts to charity, this will make you feel good about yourself and give you a sense of achievement for your day.

Practise Meditation

Meditation has been prove to decrease stress and anxiety as well as helping your body relax physically. If you have the time try to start a meditation routine. Practise deep breathing and clearing your mind of negative thoughts and feelings that may be consuming your life. Just five minutes a day will help you to decrease anxiety and will relax your mind and body.
