BBC chiefs are set to only show the World Cup final’s money-spinning half-time show on their digital outlets – and fans have backed the shock call.

But the BBC, who will have the likes of Alan Shearer, Cesar Azpilicueta, Olivier Giroud and Wayne Rooney at the tournament, plan to limit their coverage.

Fifa supremo Gianni Infantino wants the half-time show to mirror the extravaganza at the Super Bowl.

But The Times report the BBC are on course to stick with the usual process of analysing the first half during the interval instead of putting the music performances front and centre.

Although a final decision has not been made, viewers are expected to only be able to watch the mini concert on the Beeb’s digital platforms.

And football fans have been taking to social media to celebrate the sensational plan.

One said: “God bless the licence fee.”

Another added: “Do I care what they will waffle? No. Will I learn from what they say? Also no. But do I prefer that over what is pushing on us? Absolutely.”

A third noted: “This might be the first thing this year that everyone in the UK is in agreement on.”

A fourth cheeky supporter chimed in: “Great direction from . No one wants to see BTS.”

And a fifth claimed: “Fantastic news. Nobody wants to watch this slop.”

Fellow broadcaster ITV – who boast the likes of Roy Keane, Gary Neville, Ian Wright, Patrick Vieira and Ange Postecoglou – are in line to head in the same direction.

The half-time show will result in the 15-minute break having to be extended.

And when it was confirmed the music performances will run “significantly beyond” the usual allocated time.

Broadcasters are still waiting to find out how long the half-time show will last – with rumours varying from 11 to 25 minutes.
