The Kebbi State Commissioner of Education, Halima Bande, on Wednesday formally handed over 24 rescued students of Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, to the state’s First Lady, Zainab Nasare Idris.
Bande confirmed that the girls were in good health and had not been molested during their captivity. She praised the state government’s efforts, highlighting Governor Nasir Idris’ dedication throughout the ordeal. “The governor has been relentless and has lost sleep since the abduction,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of the students’ parents, Malam Illiyasu Garba expressed gratitude to the governor.
“We had firm belief that whatever the governor Idris cannot do does not exist. We were confident our children would return safely,” he said.
Bande also thanked the military, religious leaders, and others who contributed to the successful rescue operation.
Responding after receiving the students, First Lady Zainab Nasare Idris said the people of Kebbi had been deeply worried since the abduction. She praised the swift rescue within one week and urged parents not to lose faith in education.
“Proper measures will be taken to ensure nothing of such happens in Kebbi State. We thank Almighty Allah for the successful rescue,” she said.
