Former presidential candidate, Gbenga Hashim, asserts that he will not be intimidated by any legal or political tactics intended to undermine the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Hashim expressed this view in a statement on Wednesday, emphasizing that Nigeria's multiparty democracy is solidly established and cannot be dismantled.

He stated that he would not be swayed by what he termed maneuvers allegedly orchestrated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), underscoring that no individual or political party can monopolize power in Nigeria.

The politician highlighted that Nigeria has a historical commitment to pluralism as a method of managing its diversity, noting that the nation's founding fathers intentionally chose a multiparty system at independence.

“Nigeria has always been dedicated to multiparty democracy. Even during the First Republic, political power was never concentrated in the hands of a single person or party,” he remarked.

The PDP leader recalled that despite the prominence of Sir Ahmadu Bello as the head of the Northern People’s Congress, other political entities such as Aminu Kano’s Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU), J.S. Tarka’s Middle Belt Congress, and Sir Kashim Ibrahim’s Borno People’s Union also held considerable sway.

Hashim further noted that a similar political diversity was present in the South West, where the Action Group competed alongside the NCNC and various other regional parties, including the Ibadan People’s Party.

“Our democracy has never been a one-star phenomenon. In our sky, there are countless stars,” he concluded.
