The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured all 25 chairmanship positions in the recent local government elections held in Niger State.
The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) reported that the APC won 271 out of the 274 available councillorship seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) managed to secure only three, including two in Tafa and one in Rafi local government areas.
While announcing the results, the NSIEC Commissioner for Operations, Mohammed Liman, indicated that the elections were conducted in all 25 local government areas in accordance with electoral laws and the commission’s operational protocols.
“All returning officers have concluded the collation and announcement of results as mandated by law,” Liman stated. “After a comprehensive evaluation, the commission has ratified and confirmed the results as announced.”
He noted that certificates of return would be issued soon to the elected chairpersons and councillors, with the relevant parties duly informed of the schedule.
The local government elections were held on Saturday, November 1, featuring candidates from over ten political parties, including the PDP, Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and African Democratic Congress (ADC).
